Avoiding Pelvic Prejudice

Excerpt from The Birth Book written by William Sears, M.D. and Martha Sears, R.N.:

Don’t let your birth attendant plant a “too small pelvis” fear in your mind.  Many petite mothers have successfully pushed out big babies.  Estimates of pelvic size are inaccurate.  Due to the hormones and the forces of birth, your pelvic outlet enlarges during labor, and your baby’s head changes shape to accommodate the passage.  Mechanical measurements don’t account for these biological changes.
