8 Steps to Balance Your Immune System

My chiropractor gave me an audio CD that he made a few years back called 8 Steps to Balance Your Immune System.  In addition to the eight steps, he provides some very good information regarding vaginal births and breastfeeding.  This is a great listen for anybody and is less than 20 minutes in length.  Here are some factors that contribute to an unbalanced immune system in babies and children:  cesarean sections, vaccinations, not breastfeeding, cleaning and sanitizing everything.   So, here are some steps to balance your child’s immune system:

For babies and children:
1.  Avoid cesarean section, if possible.  Being born vaginally (and naturally) gives a newborn an auto immune boost because the baby comes in contact with normal bacteria along the birth canal, which stimulates the functioning of their immune system.
2.  Avoid antibiotics before and after birth, if possible.  Antibiotics cause the wrong kind of immune response, especially if they are not really needed.
3.  Avoid unnecessary vaccinations.  Children receive nearly 30 vaccinations before they start school.  Vaccinations cause the wrong kind of immune response.  Do your own research and decide which vaccinations you feel are/aren’t necessary or if there are alternatives.
4.  Breastfeeding provides an explosion of good immune cells.  Not only that, but the scent of a dirty diaper and the infant’s saliva sends cellular signals that change the mother’s milk content to suit the infant’s needs.
5.  Everything a child puts into their mouth exposes them to everything they need to produce a healthy immune system.

Since we can’t really do a whole lot to change the above for situations in the past, we need to know what we, as adults, CAN do.  Here are some factors that contribute to an unbalanced immune system in adults:  unnecessary vaccinations, repeat antibiotics, trans fats, parasites, oxidation by free radicals, mercury exposure, nicotine, caffeine, progesterone in birth control, sugar, food deprivation, and stress.  Here are 8 Steps to Balance Your Immune System:

For adults:
1.  Chiropractic care can improve immune function by keeping your spine and nervous system in line.
2.  Antioxidants (carrots, squash, broccoli, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, kale, collards, cataloupe, peaches, apricots, oranges, limes, green peppers, strawberries, nuts, seeds, whole grains, vegetable oil, liver oil, fish, shellfish, red meat, eggs, chicken, garlic, soy, red wine, Concord grapes, pomegranate, cranberries, tea, pink grapefruit, watermelon, kiwi, brussels sprouts, spinach, flax seed, oatmeal, barley, rye, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), and Glutathione).
3.  Fish Oil Supplements
4.  Plant Sterol Supplements (rice bran, wheat germ, oat bran, bran, whole wheat, brown rice, dried peas, dried beans, lentils, peanuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, dill, apples, avocados, tomatoes, vegetable oils, wheat germ oils, and blueberries) and Probiotic Supplements (yogurt, frozen yogurt, kefir, cultured dairy products, juice, fermented cabbage, brined olives, and salted gherkins).
5.  Allow your body to fight illnesses.
6.  Avoid running to the doctor for antibiotics all the time.
7.  Get dirty.
8.  Think positive.  Learning something new every day overrides negative thoughts.
